“The Frog Prince” Returns September 6
Wishing Chair Productions Brings Back One of Their Most Popular Shows
A spoiled princess, a golden ball, and a talking frog. All on strings. You may have heard the story before, but you’ve never experienced it quite like this.
On Sep 6, Nashville Public Library’s Wishing Chair Productions brings their adaptation of The Frog Prince back to the Library.
Based on the classic fairy tale, The Frog Prince tells the story of Princess Lilly who – after losing her cherished golden ball in a pond – meets a frog who claims to be a human prince. After helping her retrieve the ball, the frog follows her home, and hilarity ensues.
The Wishing Chair team is proud of the fact that The Frog Prince is one of their most beloved shows. Mary Tanner, a Wishing Chair performing artist, describes the show as a fun, musical experience in puppetry that the whole family can enjoy.
“We don’t talk down to kids. We respect them and their ability to understand things at a higher level,” Tanner said. “Our show is made for the whole family. It’s a ton of fun!”
The production features five of the original marionettes created by puppet master Tom Tichenor more than 45 years ago. The soundtrack is composed of original music, with lyrics by Brian Hull, Wishing Chair’s program manager; arrangements by Christian and Gospel artist Sarah Hart; and instrumentation by Nashville musician Jeff Taylor.
“The music makes our version of The Frog Prince special,” Hull said. “After every show, I always hear people singing the songs as they leave the theater.”
The Frog Prince will run at the Main Library, 615 Church St., every Friday and Saturday, at 10:30 and 11:30 AM, Sep 6-21. Run time is 30 minutes, and admission is free. The show is recommended for ages 3-10, but all are welcome.
