LOVE-ly Picture Books

It’s Valentine’s Day! And, what better way to celebrate than with some adorable picture book love stories?

I hope you feel the love in these books. And, spoiler alert, depending on how you’re feeling, you may need some tissues when you read these books.

The Pink Umbrella

I’m a sucker for a great rom-com, and this book fits the bill. I’ve even added it to my personal collection at home. Adele, our romantic heroine, loves many things and is a huge part of her community, but she can’t stand the rain. She wants to stay in bed every time. Slowly, one of her customers brings her out of her shell, piece by piece, through little gifts.

[On a side note: If you are a fan of Pushing Daisies, I think you’ll like this book!]

The Love Letter

Have you ever found a letter that made you feel appreciated and loved? Several friends stumble upon the same love letter at different times and all believe they have a secret admirer. It helps them come out of their shells and try to put forth our best efforts. But, it soon turns into a silly mix-up that leaves them feeling shy. Thankfully, a little friend helps resolve all their problems.

Who Goes There?

Another rom-com style book to fall in love with! Lewis Mouse is preparing for winter, but something seems to be missing and he can’t quite seem to put his finger on what it is. As he settles in for the night, he continuously hears scary noises. He tries using a big, commanding voice to send them on their way, but it doesn’t seem to help. Eventually, Lewis goes out to investigate…and finds just what’s missing.

Once Upon a Goat

A fairy tale mix-up full of humor and misinterpretations. The king and queen ask the fairy godmother for a child…but that’s not quite what they get. Instead, a goat shows up. At first, they don’t know what to do with him, but eventually, they come to love him. That is – until the fairy godmother shows up and realizes her mistake! The resolution to this story is beautiful.

Isle of You

This one is different from all the others. It’s about self-love and non-romantic love. The love we get from parents, guardians, relatives, friends, etc. It’s a perfect book to read to build yourself (or anyone) up. It talks you through how to cope with a hard day. Find a place that makes you happy. It can be anywhere. Come back to loving yourself. And, remember, that somebody out there loves you, too.
