Adult Literacy is a dynamic facet of the Nashville Public Library's award-winning "Bringing Books to Life" outreach program, and the Library is seeking a qualified intern to assist Adult Literacy staff with new projects, in an internship that will be conducted and supervised primarily in-person. The intern will play a role in developing collaborative and innovative approaches to teacher training and volunteer management in the field of adult education. Potential projects include conducting research, improving accessibility of learner resources, and supporting the adult literacy team with virtual programming and events.
Applicants should be college students with a background in education, community development, communications or foreign languages, with an enthusiasm and dedication to serving others. Applicants must have excellent communications skills and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with a diverse team and in a diverse community. Ideal candidates are reliable self-starters, with problem-solving abilities, who exhibit creativity and resourcefulness. Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish or Arabic, are a plus. Applicants who have been directly impacted by adult literacy education and literacy programs are encouraged to apply.
Unpaid, part-time internship, to be conducted and supervised in-person, with some remote assignments possible, 8-12 hours per week (minimum 100-150 hours); weekday availability required, with some evenings and weekends possible; otherwise flexible scheduling.
