Project Description

The Thompson Lane Branch of the Nashville Public Library is seeking a qualified intern to assist with community and demographic research, in an internship that will be conducted and supervised primarily remotely, with some in-person assignments as needed. The intern will use the “Data Axle” database and other resources to research community and business organizations in the Thompson Lane neighborhood. The intern will compile information into a report, and under supervision of the branch manager, facilitate community outreach about library services, based on findings.

Qualifications

Applicants should be college students with a background in social sciences, humanities, education, or community development, with an enthusiasm and dedication to serving others. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with a diverse team and in a diverse community. Applicants should have experience conducting research, writing papers, and making presentations, and be capable of accuracy and attention to detail. Ideal candidates are reliable self-starters, who exhibit creativity and resourcefulness.

Position Type

Unpaid, part-time internship, to be conducted and supervised primarily remotely, with some in-person assignments possible; 8-12 hours per week (minimum 100-150 hours); weekday availability required, otherwise flexible scheduling.
