Gertrude is a sweet and beautiful little girl whose only wish is to be taken away to world filled with sugarplums and magic. Lucky for her, there is Fairyland to make all her dreams come true!
Gert is a hard-living, foul-mouthed wretch who looks not a day over six years of age. Her only wish is to leave Fairyland…with as many dead bodies as possible because she’s been stuck in the same body, and the same clothes for the past 20+ years!
If Gertrude had been any other child, she would have probably found her way out of Fairyland years ago, but sadly, her rose-colored glasses came in a shade of grey with a side of “Gerty needs to express some rage.” Unfortunately, for the residents of Fairyland, Gert’s rage is going to be expressed explicitly all over them!
I Hate Fairyland is a candy-coated romp that is brimming with nightmare fuel and hilarity. Between Skottie Young’s drawings and Jean-Francois Beaulieu’s coloring, you have images that are at once sickly-sweet, vibrant, and gory. Because Gert has been in Fairyland most of her life, her speech and personality are an exact match to the pictures; of course, comedy ensues.
In observance of the Christmas holiday, all library locations close at 1 PM Monday, December 23, and reopen Thursday, December 26.
