Wrong! Well technically they do chew on them but books aren't just for teething. So why are books an important part of a baby's life? When you read to your baby they learn important pre-reading skills like how a book works. They are also learning language and sounds. There is a whole world of books written for babies and I'll list some of my favorites below, but to be honest when your babies are tiny you can read them anything as long as you make your voice expressive!

Help ensure your child's reading success

As your little one grows, here are some of the most important things you can do to help:

• Show them that you love reading by letting them see you read for pleasure.
• Be excited when they ask you to read them a book - even if it's the same book you've read 100 times! 
• Take them to the library and let them pick out their own books. Feel free to supplement with some other titles but allowing them to make choices is important, too.
• Make reading a book part of bedtime. It gives you time to bond and it gives them time to relax before drifting off to sleep - hopefully!
