MTSU Center for Chinese Music and Culture Presents Chinese Opera

Ever wanted to learn more about Chinese culture? NPL has partnered with Middle Tennessee Center for Chinese Music and Culture to bring you a comprehensive package of lecture, performance, and activities perfect for the entire family. Uncover the symbolic meanings of patterns and colors through the Chinese Music and Culture Chinese Events this spring.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity to partner with Nashville Public Library. Through our activities, everyone can gain a better understanding of Chinese culture through lecture, high quality performance, and activities. Our artists who lead the workshops will talk about the symbolic meanings of patterns and colors. Our goal is to educate and entertain. We hope to see the whole family at our events and also at our center.”
—Mei Han, Director of The Middle Tennessee Center for Chinese Music and Culture

Turnip Green Creative Reuse

Discover traditions and symbolism this spring with Turnip Green Creative Reuse. Want to learn how to turn what others might call trash into your own masterpiece while learning more about different cultures across the world? Check out Community of Many Faces’ Turnip Green Creative Reuse events: weave a Kente cloth, make a Chinese New Year’s lantern, or craft Aboriginal-inspired jewelry at a library location near you!

“We are fortunate to work with youth across Nashville with different cultures and walks of life. Our community partnership with Community of Many Faces provides a chance for youth to educate and learn from one another. Because Nashville is so diverse, it creates a chance for conversations about culture and diversity. We look forward to hosting events that foster those conversations.”
—Leah Sherry, Owner of Turnip Green Creative Reuse

Global Education Center

Explore different cultures through dance this spring from Global Education Center. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about cultural tradition, dance, and music from across the world.

“We wanted to create an educational safe haven for kids to come together from different cultures and learn. As a NPL community partner, we hope to educate and engage through the arts during our programs. We want to use the arts to battle against stereotypes and racism. We not only see this as an opportunity for kids to get involved, but also parents. If we come together, we can find the commonalities between us and work together towards common goals.”
—Ellen Gilbert, Executive Director of Global Education Center
