5 Ways Life Has Changed Post-Wedding

July 27, 2020

Life post-wedding in the Time of Corona is not how I imagined it. For starters, I thought we would go on a honeymoon or see more of our families to celebrate. But in a way, I'm thankful for the opportunity to have this time together. We're finding new hobbies and new grooves, and although not a lot is different, here are some of the ways that our lives have changed.

1. Husband/Wife Book Club

I don't know if I can technically call this a book club since it's just me and my husband, but I am excited about this. This idea bloomed from a discussion about wanting to read Frankenstein. We decided that there were some horror classics that we both wanted to read, so why not do it together and discuss? Our first read is The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells. It's the perfect starting place for us since Dan doesn't have a lot of time to read a long tome, and I love the original Universal Monster movies.

2. Home Renovations

Like everyone else during this time, Dan and I decided to work on getting the inside of our house put together. We've done a few little projects here and there, and it has really helped both pass the time and turn our house into a home. Aside from Pintrest, I recommend checking out the book Young House Love. It has tons of great ideas for small, relatively inexpensive tweaks. And even if you don't make any of the projects from the book, sometimes just looking at the pictures helps me to visualize how I want the space to look.

3. Miyazaki Films

Before marriage, I had watched exactly one Miyazaki film and Dan hadn't seen any. Now we are making a point to watch through the collection together. So far, I'm a big fan of Kiki's Delivery Service, but I'm loving all of the movies in general.

4. Test Kitchen

One of the bigger changes is that Dan is now on a regular schedule, meaning some nights he'll be in charge of dinner. I'm the one who enjoys cooking, but I'll happily relinquish my head chef title a few times a week. We've been watching a lot of Bon Appetit's Test Kitchen videos on the Internet, and we're collecting recipes to try ourselves from their magazine, which you can find online through RBDigital. If you're looking to up your kitchen game, check out their videos, the magazines, or even some of their contributors' cookbooks, like Priya Krishna's book.

5. New Puppy

And by far the biggest change is that Dan and I are finally dog parents. We're both dog people, but neither of us has raised a puppy before now. It's a pretty time-consuming process. Schedules change, accidents happen, and nights are sleepless, but it's worth every moment. If you're considering getting a new four-legged family member, might I suggest The Art of Raising a Puppy. This trusted classic covers not only training, but how to choose the right companion for you.
