How about checking out some great poetry from your library? 

I think we were all inspired by Amanda Gorman’s powerful inaugural poem, “The Hill We Climb,” but today I would like to tell you about another great Amanda poet (we Amandas have to stick together after all).

I first came across Amanda Lovelace on Goodreads. Her 2020 collection, break your glass slippers, was nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award for Poetry. When I checked out her book, I really was immediately pulled into it. She plays with fairy tales and likes to turn them on their heads. Since this one was so enjoyable, I went searching for more.

Turns out Amanda Lovelace first built a following on Tumblr, but she also posts her poems to Instagram. Her first collection, women are some kind of magic, is a trilogy and is based on Amanda’s life.

One of my favorite poems of hers comes from her second collection, things that h(a)unt. In her 2018 book, to make monsters out of girls, she writes:

didn’t
anyone ever
warn you
not to
try 
to trick
a girl
who reads?

she’s
already
seen 
everything.

 - don’t try to waste your time again
