Christmas in July

July 8, 2021

Who’s ready for some Christmas in July? Because nothing says snow more than 90 degree heat.

Am I right?

So take a listen to these excellent audio books to get you in the mood for a little winter weather.

I kept seeing this book during the past Christmas season, but I didn’t immediately try to read it because I figured there was too long of a waitlist. Now that a little time has passed, this was the perfect book to listen to on my commute. Maeylin and her family and friends have gathered for their traditional Christmas week together at a cabin in Utah. But something’s wrong because Mae keeps having to relive the first couple days of the week. Admittedly, I’m not the biggest fan of Groundhog’s Day type storylines, but once we got past that, I really enjoyed this one. It sounds great to have a big gathering with friends and family at a snowy cabin in the mountains. And to fall in love on top of it? Yes please.

I have been home for too long because some of these dates sounded like fun - and I hated dating. Thirty-something Kate lives in a small town just outside of London. Her best friend convinced her to sign up for a local match-making event that would pair her up with twelve different guys over the course of the month leading up to Christmas. I really liked Kate. She designs fabric for a big London house (um...how cool of a job is that?) and she gets to bake treats for the local cafe (2 for 2!), run by another of her good friends. While there were some decidedly cringe-worthy moments, overall, this book really pulled me in. I couldn’t hardly put it down once everything got going. A great audio read for the car now that traffic is returning.

I really just picked this one to listen to so I could share a hat trick of delightful Christmas audio books with you in the middle of summer. That said, I really enjoyed it. It was a little like Princess Diaries, but for grownups. Marie is in New York and in desperate need of a taxi to a party on a yacht. Luckily, Leo and his sister Gabby just happen to be nearby and can help her out. Thus begins the epic romance of Princess Marie of Eldovia and Leonardo Ricci, New York cab driver. This one took a couple different turns from what I was expecting, which was nice. Easy to listen to. Definitely worth the time.

NPL also has these in print/ebook if you’d like to read instead of listening. Either way, both count towards your Summer Challenge

So grab your scarf and your swimsuit and get busy!

Happy Summer Christmas…
