Nashville in Fiction

August 26, 2021

I’ve lived in Nashville for a while now. I won’t tell you exactly how long because it would just make me feel old. If I’m honest, when I moved down here, I never expected to stay this long, but it’s worked out, so I guess I’m in for the long haul. To celebrate the fact that I am never leaving, I thought it would be fun to dig into some fiction series set in Nashville. It’s always enjoyable to see favorite characters visit familiar landmarks.

It Happened in Nashville Series (The Off Limits Rule and The Temporary Roomie)

I don’t remember exactly how I found this series. I think it started with me reading her It Happened in Charleston series, that I got through ILL. But Sarah was born and raised in Nashville, so you know it was just a matter of time before It Happened in Nashville. Main character Lucy hits a patch of bad luck and moves in with her brother. Things are going swimmingly until she meets his best friend, Cooper. Sparks fly, her brother gets mad, and Lucy doesn’t know what to do. Sarah Adams is a great writer of RomComs and you won’t want to put this one down once you start.

Right now, NPL only has the first book because the second one just came out.  UPDATE: We just got the second book, The Temporary Roomie, in. Woot! Put your hold on the print copy or eAudiobook today!

The Bromance Book Club Series by Lyssa Kay Adams (The Bromance Book Club, Undercover Bromance, Crazy Stupid Bromance, Isn’t It Bromantic)

I loved the premise of this one: a group of professional boy athletes start reading romances in order to better understand and impress their women. The author takes a few liberties with the Nashville pro teams, but these are still fun reads. I think the third one, Crazy Stupid Bromance, is my favorite because I heart Noah the mostest. Also, the last one just came out. NPL has it, but you may need to put your hold in now, then read the other three while you wait. (I didn’t do that, so now I am forced to languish in expectation because I didn’t realize it was so new. Le sigh.)

The Matchmakers Trilogy by Kaye Dacus (Love Remains, The Art of Romance, Turnabout’s Fair Play)

Author Kaye Dacus is the most accurate of the three authors in her portrayal of Nashville (and the only one not named Adams, for some strange reason). Her premise: four best friends decide that they need to set up their grandchildren. I think my favorite one in this series was The Art of Romance. Dylan is an artist and Caylor is an author/professor. Those sound like my idea of fun people (um...that wasn’t sarcasm – I really do think they’d be fun to hang out with). You would need to get the first book of the series from ILL (woot woot) UPDATE, October 2021: NPL now has all three titles in this series so put a hold on them now!

All three of these series are set in modern-day Nashville. If you are looking for something more historic, check out Tamera Alexander. She has three series set in the past: Belmont, Belle Meade, and Carnton.

So if you don’t get enough Nashville in your everyday life, NPL can help fill that void. Check any or all of these out, and then come down and “Wooo!” with all the bachelorettes. Or not. Whatever rocks your world.

Happy Nashville-ing…
