Preparing for the Future

March 1, 2024

With the rising use of AI (artificial intelligence), there has been a growing fear of becoming obsolete. I browsed NPL’s vast collection and found these two books to prepare you for the future.

Stretch

Stretch

Stretch by Karie Willyerd and Barbara Mistick discusses how people currently in the workforce understand how they need to change but don’t have the tools for it.

The book is separated into five parts: Introduction, It’s All on You, You Need Options, You Have Dreams, and Charting the Path Forward. At the end of each part, there is a summary covering the topic and strategies for implementing them.

One thing I really liked about this book is the Stretch Breaks. Stretch Breaks are opportunities to review certain situations or topics and how you handled them. Willyerd and Mistick strategically placed these breaks throughout the book.

Build for Tomorrow

Building for Tomorrow

In his book Building for Tomorrow, Jason Feifer (Editor-in-Chief of Entrepreneur) writes about the uncomfortable truth we all must face. The world we know today will dramatically differ ten years from now or even sooner.

Feifer’s conversations with founders, innovators, and various levels of business people helped him realize four key points to cover in this book: Panic, Adaptation, New Normal, and Wouldn’t Go Back. Panic discusses why we don’t like change. Adaptation explores handling the changes in real time. New Normal deals with unavoidable changes. Wouldn’t Go Back reflects on the current changes and the old ones.

This book highlights how anyone can learn to be a forward thinker and how to make changes before the world demands it from you.

Closing

Your position in the workplace can be scary. However, these two books will help you prepare for the changes that are surely coming.
