Picture Books Featuring Interfaith and Multiracial Families

August 6, 2024

According to the 2020 Census, the amount of people who identify as being of more than one racial background is now at over 33 million people, or over 10% of the U.S. population. Likewise, 1 in 5 adults in the United States report having grown up in an interfaith household, and the numbers seem to be growing among younger generations. In other words, we are an ever more diverse country—and each one of us contains multitudes.

Picture books are their very best when they show us the fullness of our diverse lived experiences. In this blog post we will highlight picture books in our collection featuring multiracial and interfaith families and children. Share these titles at home for a mirror reflecting your own family's experience, or for a window into how another family lives.

We have books for different family holidays.

We have books for Hanukkah.

Books to read at Christmas.

Or during Eid al-Adha.

And books featuring different new year celebrations!

We have books where families speak more than one language.

Or where someone has to travel far to see their family in different parts of the world.

And of course we have books where food is something everyone shares.

Check out the catalog widget below to see a whole list of books available in our collection. You can always see if these titles are available at your local library, or put a hold on your desired titles and have them delivered to the branch of your choice. Whatever you choose, we hope to see you soon!
