Summer Kids: Read and Watch

July 7, 2017

Looking for a challenge this summer? Work your way through 101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up and 101 Movies to See Before You Grow Up!

101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up

Are you looking for really great books for your child? This is the best resource I've seen in a long time! With bright pages and colorful illustrations, your child will be excited to flip through and pick out books to read. Parents and caregivers will be excited to see age recommendations (4+ to 11+ years old), a brief summary, and a "What to read next?" section for each title. There's also a table of contents with titles listed by age and an index in the back with titles listed by genre. Whether you check out this book from the library or purchase a copy of your own this is sure to be a valuable resource for book inspiration.

101 Movies to See Before You Grow Up

Do you have a movie buff in the family? Are you hoping to pass that love on to your child? This book is a great place to start. This title is arranged by genre with Family (45 titles), Musicals, Sports, and Documentaries to name a few. These selections appeal to a wider age range than the 101 Books title and lists the MPAA rating versus an age recommendation but with titles like The Dead Poet's Society and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon it's apparent that this book more than the first intends to cover the entire preschool to 18 years of age span. What does remain the same is the bright, colorful illustrations that will appeal to kids and the quality selection of titles both old and new.

Miss Terri has worked at three different branches of Nashville Public Library since 2002. She's currently the head of the Children's Department at the Green Hills Branch Library. When she isn’t working, she is usually hanging out with her dog Boo. Isn’t he cute?
