Do You Have Any Dragon Lovers in Your Life?

November 19, 2019

Well, I certainly have those dragon lovers in my life, and I wanted to share some of my favorites to read aloud with them.

When Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin first came out, I was so excited about it (because, you know, dragons AND tacos) that I bought it before I even read it, which, if you know me, is very unusual for me with picture books. Generally, I'll find the book in the library, read it, and if I love it, buy it for myself or for someone I love. This purchase was worth every cent. To this day, Dragons Love Tacos is one of my go-to favorite books. So, as you can imagine, when I had a little one ask me if we could read about dragons in story time, I had to share one of my favorites because who doesn't love spicy salsa?! (Hint: the answer is dragons. Dragons hate spicy salsa.) [[nid:5765]]

When I started planning the story time of dragons, I found so many other fun dragon books to share, that I decided we needed not just one, but TWO dragon story times. Naturally, in the second story time, I shared Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel because it's also amazing and is always a hit. [[nid:5766]]

Another great dragon book I found was There's a Dragon in Your Book by Tom Fletcher. In this book, the reader is constantly trying to take care of this just- hatched dragon by putting out the fires it sets. The kids thought it was hilarious and so did most of the parents. [[nid:5764]]

I also read Again! by Emily Gravett, which is about a little dragon named Cedric who wants his mom to read his favorite story to him over and over again—something most parents and other caregivers can relate to. Cedric's mother keeps making the story shorter and shorter, leaving out words until Cedric finally falls asleep. This book was sweet and adorable, and in my opinion, a must for any dragon story time. One last favorite for any dragon lover is Have You Seen My Dragon? by Steve Light. This beautifully illustrated book is a seek-and-find that is great for little ones who need more interaction with their books in order to sit for a few minutes. They can help find the dragon while the boy in the story is looking for him and at the same time work their little brains without even realizing it. [[nid:5762]]

I know I've said it a million times, but when we start reading at an early age, we can make our futures so much brighter, and what more of an exciting thing to read for both parents and kids than about dragons?!
