Why should I get a library card for my child?

Getting your child their own library card is an important right of passage and has several benefits:

• It emphasizes the importance of reading.
• Your child will be more invested in stories they've chosen and checked out themselves.
• A library card helps your child learn about responsibility and the importance of taking care of books. 

How do I sign my child up for a card?

Signing up for a card is easy. Bring your ID and proof of address to any library in Davidson County and ask for your child’s “My First Library Card.” Don’t forget to register your child (0-5 years old) for Read to Rise while you’re there!

Your child's "My First Library Card" has all of the borrowing privileges of a regular child’s library card. Learn more about getting a library card.

Is there an easy way to keep track of my account and my child's?

Link your library card to your child's card for easy account management!

1. Go to library.nashville.org.
2. Click “My Account” (in orange) at the top right of the page.
3. Log in with your library card number and pin number (not your child's).
4. Click “Account Settings” in the menu on the left.
5. Scroll down to the “Linked Accounts” section.
6. Click “Add an Account” and enter the library card number and pin number of your child’s account.
7. Click “Add an Account”.
8. Your child’s account should now show up under “The following accounts can be managed from this account.”
